Jennifer Lawrence still isn’t certain whether she’ll show up as Mystique in another X-Men film, yet she beyond any doubt needs the changing mutant to join Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.
“Oh my god, I would love to,” she said during an interview with MTV News while promoting Passengers. “I don’t even know — I would choose that over doing another X-Men movie. I won’t be Mystique in the X-Men movies, but I would love to be Mystique in Guardians of the Galaxy. I wonder if they can do that.”
The way things are currently, don’t hold your breath for this. Watchmen 2 is well into the after-generation handle, so to consolidate Lawrence would require reshoots. However, past that and trickier: Fox as of now holds the film rights to the X-Men establishment, while the Avengers universe (counting Guardians of the Galaxy) stays at Disney’s Marvel Studios.
Lawrence’s X-Men manage Fox terminated with X-Men: Apocalypse, and she’s since put her future with the establishment in uncertainty. “[Michael] Fassbender and [James] McAvoy and I were all talking,” she said earlier this year, “Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”
Her Passengers costar Chris Pratt, in the meantime, is making the most of his time as Star-Lord for chief James Gunn. He’ll return in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, in theaters, starting May 5, 2017.
