The original American Idol is back in the music scene. Kelly Clarkson released two new songs and a new video that are part of her upcoming album Meaning of Life.
The singer released the first single of the new album, Love So Soft, and also an accompanying music video. But the Since U been Gone singer surprised her fans by announcing that those who pre-ordered her album on iTunes will be getting a second song, Move You, as an instant download.
Meaning of Life, Clarkson eight studio album, marks a new chapter for the singer/songrwriter: this is her first record since signing with Atlantic Records back in June 2016. The artist talked about her departure from RCA, her former label, and the excitement over her future with Atlantic.
“Although I am extremely thankful to the amazing people that I’ve had the chance to work with, I cannot describe the excitement of working with Julie Greenwald, Craig Kallman and their team at Atlantic Records. The loyalty, innovation, and creativeness that Atlantic Records has been consistently bringing to the music industry is incredibly exciting for any artist to be a part of! We have already started creating a record that I have been wanting to make since I was a little girl, and a record that fans have been asking me to make for years. Here’s to the future!”
In a Facebook Live video, Clarkson explained why she switched record labels before she started working on her upcoming album. “What’s cool about Atlantic Records is that they love every part of my personality, as far as all the colors of my voice,” she said. “I love the country side of me, I love the Broadway side of me, I love the pop side of me and the soulful side of me—and they are down to really make whatever record I’m into, which is real rare. So, I’m super excited about it.”
Kelly Clarkson celebrated the album release with Atlantic Records at NYC’s Rainbow Room on September 6, in the loving company of her family: husband, Brandon Blackstock, and their two kids River Rose, 3, and Remington, 16 months. Later, Clarkson took the stage to perform five songs from Meaning of Life as well as her 2004 hit “Walk Away.”
