Christian Bale transforms once again for an incredible film role: Dick Cheney!

0 39

Another transformation, another possible Oscar nomination? There’s still a long wait for the 2019 awards season but Christian Bale is already pulling ahead with an incredible transformation for a new role.

The Oscar winner, who has proven himself to be quite the chameleon, is getting ready to portray a political figure that looks nothing like him: Dick Cheney.

The star of the Dark Knight trilogy surprised everybody attending the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. Not only does the actor looks like he put up some weight but also he appeared with his dark eyebrows bleached blond to look like the controversial American politician.

The 43 year old will play former vice president Cheney in the film Backseat. The biopic, that will start filming this month, also stars his co-star in The Fighter and American Hustle, Amy Adams, as Lynne Cheney, Sam Rockwell as former president George W. Bush, Steve Carell  as Donald Rumsfeld and Bill Pullman as Nelson Rockefeller.

These incredible physical transformations are not uncommon for the intense actor. Bale already lost near 70 pounds in order to portrayed a paranoid insomniac in 2004’s The Machinist and quickly gained it all back for his iconic role as Batman in Batman Begins.

In 2011, the actor lost weight one more time for The Fighter. This role earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. And in 2013, he gained 43 pounds to play a con artist in his Academy Award nominated role in American Hustle.

The award winning actor has said that he doesn’t seek out specifically for physically demanding roles. “Believe me, I don’t go looking for these things,” he said in an interview in 2010. “If it does happen, it’s like, ‘Oh damn, I have to do that again, because I just tend to fall for the movie, the character, and then I’ll realize, ‘Oh, man, I gotta do that.’”

The actor was at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado to promote his movie, Hostiles, and also to receive the Telluride Silver Medallion for achievement in the film industry.

Backseat, directed by Adam McKey, will be in theaters in the fall of 2018.

The winners and biggest moments of The MTV Video Music Awards 2017

0 45

Taylor’s video premiere! Kendrick’s victory! Emotional speeches! The MTV Video Music Awards had some major moments during the telecast.

Kendrick Lamar was the king. The rapper won six prizes at the award show. The Compton-born star took home Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Hip Hop and the Video of the Years. The acclaimed artist was in charge of opening the show, and set the stage on fire with a fantastic performance of his hits DNA and HUMBLE.

An absentee Taylor Swift was a major part of the ceremony. Even though T-Swift didn’t attend the bash—which was hosted by Katy Perry—in person, the singer won Best Collaboration alongside Zayn Malik for the single I Don’t Wanna Live Forever. Swift also premiered her new video Look What You Made Me Do.

Camila, who? The remaining members of Fifth Harmony took the stage to perform their hit song “Down”, but their show started with the girls throwing a faux fifth member off the top of the plataform. So shady!

Kesha’s important speech. The Rainbow singer talked about suicide prevention before introducing Logic. The pop star, who’s having a great career moment after some personal and legal turmoil, took a moment to remind viewers that “none of us are alone.”

Mother of the year. Pink received the 2017 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and the singer took the opportunity to talk about her daughter and the importance of staying true to yourself.

“When people make fun of me, that’s what they use. They say that I look like a boy, or I’m too masculine, or that I have too many opinions, my body is too strong. And I said to her ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ ‘No, Mama.’ I said, ‘Do you see me changing my body?’ ‘No, Mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’ ‘No, Mama.’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, Mama.’ Okay! So, baby girl, we don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell, and we make a pearl, and we help other people to change so that they can see more kinds of beauty.”

Bravo, Pink! And congrats to all the winners!

Director Patty Jenkins responds to James Cameron’s criticism of WONDER WOMAN

0 43

Patty Jenkins responded to the statements made by Oscar winner James Cameron about Wonder Woman, the blockbuster film directed by Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot.

In an interview with The Guardian, the director of Titanic was questioned about his opinion regarding the successful film. Cameron said: “All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over ‘Wonder Woman’ has been so misguided,” he said. “She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards.”

The director of the first two installments of the Terminator franchise could not avoid the opportunity to compare Diana with his heroine, Sarah Connor: “Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon,” he said. “She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit.”

Patty Jenkins responded to the director sharing a text on twitter, which read:

“James Cameron’s inability to understand what Wonder Woman is, or stands for, to women all over the world is unsurprising as, though, he is a great filmmaker, he is not a woman.”

Regarding the type of heroine that the public wants to see, the director stressed that it is not a question of which one is better, but that it is important to have diversity in the representation: “If women have to always be hard, tough and troubled to be strong, and we aren’t free to be multidimensional or celebrate an icon of women everywhere because she is attractive and loving, then we haven’t come very far have we”

The Monster director added that she believes that women “can and should be everything just like male lead characters should be” and that there is “no right and wrong kind of powerful woman.”

Jenkins is currently in negotiations to direct Wonder Woman 2, in a deal that could make her the highest-paid female director in Hollywood.

Since the release of Wonder Woman, the blockbuster has been breaking records and it is now the highest grossing live-action film ever directed by a woman.

Mark Wahlberg Knocks “The Rock” and becomes 2017’s Highest-Paid Actor

0 46

Move over “The Rock”, there’s a new King of Hollywood in town. Mark Wahlberg became the highest-paid actor in the industry, pushing the charismatic Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to second place.

The star of action franchises such as Transformers and comedies franchises like Daddy’s Home and Ted, is at the top of the Forbes’s highest-paid actors list with $68 million in 2017. That’s more than double the total income of 2017’s highest-paid actress: Emma Stone.

Last year, the 46-year-old rapper-turned-actor didn’t even make the top 10: Wahlberg was No. 12 with an estimated $30 million. But in 2017 he went up a dozen spots thanks to a certain autobot.

Although the fifth installment of the “Transformers” franchise didn’t perform quite well, the actor still earned top dollar, because he got a fixed compensation. The film got a low 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it currently has the lowest gross of the franchise.

Meanwhile, number 2 on the list is also doing quite well with less than acclaimed films. The Baywatch and Fate of the Furious star, “The Rock” topped Forbes‘ ranking in 2016 with $64.5 million, and this year he’s got $65 million. The wrestler turned actor has also the HBO series, Ballers, and the upcoming remake Jumanji.

Rounding up the top 10 are fellow Fast and Furious actor, Vin Diesel, at number 3 with $54.5 million. Adam Sandler remains a power player at $50.5 million, thanks in part to his lucrative deal with Netflix. Number 5 is for international superstar Jackie Chan with $49 million, Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. and Mission Impossible’s Tom Cruise are number 6 and 7 respectively with $48 million and $43 million.

The international box office is proving to be quite strong with a Bollywood trio — 8th Shah Rukh Khan $38 million, 9th Salman King $37 million and 10th Akshay Kumar $35.5 million— pushing out most of Hollywood’s biggest names out of the top 10.

Morgan Freeman Will Receive SAG Life Achievement Award in 2018

0 46

Oscar winner and one of the world’s most familiar voices, legendary actor Morgan Freeman will be honored with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, recognizing his achievements and humanitarian efforts over his lustrous career.

The award is given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession.”

“I am thrilled to announce Morgan Freeman as this year’s recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Awards. Some actors spend their entire careers waiting for the perfect role. Morgan showed us that true perfection is what a performer brings to the part,” SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said in a statement Tuesday. “He is innovative, fearless and completely unbound by expectations. As a chauffeur, convicted murderer, boxing gym attendant, pimp or president, Morgan fully realized every character, baring their souls and showcasing their humanity.”

“It has been a privilege to see his genius at work, “added Carteris.

Freeman credits include award winning films such as  Street Smart, Driving Miss Daisy, Glory, Unforgiven, The Shawshank Redemption, Se7en, Invictus, Million Dollar Baby and blockbusters such as Deep Impact, Bruce Almighty,  Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the Now You See Me series, Olympus Has Fallen and its sequel London Has Fallen.

His upcoming films include The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Villa Capri.

Freeman has received four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and one win for Million Dollar Baby. Past SAG Life Achievement award winners include iconic actors such as Lily Tomlin, Carol Burnett, Debbie Reynolds, Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore.

His humanitarian work includes support for Artists for a New South Africa and the Campaign for Female Education. Freeman is also the co-founder of the Frank Silvera Writers’ Workshop, created since 1973, which supports promising African American playwrights.

The 80-year-old film icon will be recognized during the 20th Annual SAG Awards, which will be simulcast on TBS and TBT Jan. 21, 2018.

Emma Stone is 2017’s Highest-Paid Actress

0 34

City of stars, you’re shining just for her! The recent Oscar winner, Emma Stone, took the top spot on Forbes’ 2017 list of highest paid actresses.

The 28-year-old actress was crowned as the Queen of Hollywood after racking up $26 million throughout Forbes’ 12-month scoring period. The star starred in one of the biggest movies of the year since La La Land grossed around $445.3 million at the global box office.

The runner-up with $25.5 million was Jennifer Aniston. This may come as a surprise, given that the former Friends star hasn’t starred in many movies lately, but her earnings comes from her lucrative endorsement deals.

In the third place is Emma’s gal pal, Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games actress was the highest paid actress for two consecutive years (2015 – 2016), but in 2017 her earnings were only of $24 million—just a little over half of what she earned in 2016 ($46 million).

Rounding up the top 5 are Melissa McCarthy and Mila Kunis. The versatile McCarthy earned $18 million; meanwhile Kunis is no. 5 with with $15.5 million.

Also on the list, Emma Watson with $14 million. The British actress starred in Beauty and the Beast, 2017’s highest grossing film so far and she’s this year’s sole newcomer. Charlize Theron ($14 million), Cate Blanchett ($12 million), Julia Roberts ($12 million) and Amy Adams ($11.5 million) make up the rest of the Top 10.

All together, the top 10 brought in a combined $172.5 million between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017. And even though it’s a huge amount it pales in comparison to the gross accumulated by the highest-paid actors.

The top 10 highest-paid actors of 2016, since the 2017 list has yet to be revealed, raked in around $457 million. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson finished at the top with $64.5 million. That’s $40 million more than Stone made this year.

So this list doesn’t paint a pretty picture when it comes to income equality among genders. And also, it should be noted that no actress of color is among the highest-paid. The fight for race/gender equality and closing the wage gap in Hollywood continues.

HBO confirmed that the sixth episode of Game of Thrones leaked online

0 43

Not even the Dragons can stop the leaks! HBO has confirmed that the sixth episode of Game of Thrones has leaked online.

This time the leaks came from HBO Spain and HBO Nordic, when it accidentally posted Game of Thrones season 7 episode 6 four days early. The episode was available on-demand to subscribers in Spanish and Nordic territories..

“We have learned that the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones was accidentally posted for a brief time on the HBO Nordic and HBO España platforms,” HBO said in a statement. “The error appears to have originated with a third party vendor and the episode was removed as soon as it was recognized. This is not connected to the recent cyber incident at HBO in the US.”

The cable channel has been the target of cyber attacks and the hit show already had one of its episodes (the incredible episode 4 “The Spoils of War”) leaked online via their third party vendor in India.

But all these leaks haven’t hurt the show’s ratings in the least. This season remains one of its biggest ever, and it has smashed its own records.  The leaked episode four pulled in 10.2 million viewers and “Eastwatch,” the fifth episode of season seven, had an audience of 10.7 million viewers.

Game of Thrones season seven, episode six, titled “Death Is the Enemy” is the second to last episode of the current season and is set to air on Sunday, Aug. 20 on HBO. This chapter will be a major turning point for the show since it’s the penultimate installment of season 7 (and fans of the show know that these are generally the biggest of the season). In the 6th episode King Jon and his motley crew head north of the Wall to attempt to capture a White Walker. So let’s see who makes it out alive to fight another day in Westeros.
